What Help is the City Offering for Local Businesses?

In this video, Mayor Barry, and Camas CFO, Cathy Huber Nickerson discuss what help is available on a City level for businesses, as well as the City's campaign of "Support Local & Save" with local business owner, Mel Locke of Universal MMA.

0:27- Mel Locke asked: Businesses are not looking for handouts, but what can the City offer for relief for small businesses in Camas?
0:53- The City is a utility biller for water, sewer, stormwater, and garbage. One program the City is offering to help businesses is a temporary opt-out for garbage services. Many businesses are not operating, so they would not need garbage pickup. This program is voluntary but allows this service to not appear on their bill if they opt-out.
1:31- The City is not charging any late fees on past-due bills and will not be doing any shut-offs for water.
1:38-For payments, the City is offering two additional options to help during this time 1) Flexible payment plans and 2) Payment deferral.
2:59- Additionally, another program, starting on Monday, April 13, 2020, is to "Support Local & Save." Citizens of Camas are encouraged to support our local businesses and in turn, the City will help out with utility billing. If a resident supports a local business (be it a gift card, a meal take out, services, etc.), they are to save their receipts and submit them to the City to receive discounts on their utility bill. This starts as little as $25 purchased at a local business, which equates to a $15 credit on a utility bill. The cap is $125 at businesses, which equates to a $75 off on a utility bill.
4:14*note Mayor Barry refers to a $110 gym membership equating to $75 off utilities-- CORRECTION $125 is the purchase at local businesses for $75 off on utilities, $110 spent would be $50 off on the utility bill.*
4:32- This "Support Local & Save" program is modeled after a similar program started in the City of Newberg, OR. It was well-received in their community and the hope is it will be in Camas as well.

6:15- This City is taking this day-by-day and if and the programs could be extended depending on the duration, and other ideas may come to fruition.
