Margaret -
Am I wrong?
It appears to limit overtime. It demands strict adherence to the budget.
My assumption is "the budget" is the one passed late last year, not a revised budget with 10-20% cuts from planned spending.
But I may have missed something.
John
The mayor has taken measures to cut expenses. https://www.cityofcamas.us/images/DOCS/ADMINISTRATION/SupplemantalToProclamation.PDF
To answer your question - Probably not anywhere as much as they should or could.
Again - Afraid to make the hard choices and get it accomplished quickly whereby it will start making a difference before the real financial shortfall hits the books in Q3/Q4. The 2021/2022 Budget Planning process is supposed to kickoff next Month. The City needs to address 2020 now. They can always get this guy to help with the longer term.
Interesting article John.
It cites the National League of Cities joining with the U.S. Conference of Mayors to discuss approaches and share results. Mayors McDonnell, Turk and Higgins do not show results as members, but the mayor of our neighbor in Vancouver does show up.
Looks like membership is based on population size of a city and Camas would fall into the most discounted tier. Looks like Vancouver pays about $12k annually to be a member, where Camas would only need to find about $2k. Vancouver and it's 200k population seem to find value, maybe Camas should consider the help?
Feels like they are doing three things actively to cut spending:
Not cutting spending.
Pretending nothing unique is happening in the world right now, or that it can't impact Camas in any meaningful way.
Waiting for someone else to lead by example as they did with small business efforts for downtown businesses. Where would we be without Newberg stepping in?
