I had sent my proposal to the Mayor and C/C last Friday 4/03/2020.
Ellen Burton responded with an email that tossed my proposal substance back to me in the form of questions that were answered in the proposal.
During the 4/06 City Council Meeting during the Public Comment time I again addressed the issue of City of Camas getting ahead of the coming financial shortfalls and making the HARD DECISIONS necessry to remain solvent. Only Councilman Shannon Roberts responded in an email the next day that asked "what experience in particular are you offering?"
My reponse was as follows:
"Good morning. Thanks for reading my proposal and responding.
Camas needs to get ahead of any financial shortfalls that are coming in the years ahead.
One of the key elements to address is EXPENSE REDUCTION. Make the plan for deep cuts now:
· Start with a hiring freeze
· Stop OT now
· Nobody buys anything discretionary or any capital items even though it is in the budget
· Redo the balance of the remaining 2020 budget
A couple of people working with the Finance Director on a larger plan could make a big difference.
I would be glad to lead this effort. My background consists of 25+ years in business in Operations, Logistics, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management.
My experience includes reducing expenses for companies in the Manufacturing, Electronics, Consumer Products, Service and Fulfillment sectors."
Response back from Shannon Roberts:
"We are already in the throes of doing exactly as you have outlined below concerning cutbacks. Rest assured it’s not business as usual. I’m also forwarding your expertise in to our finance manager and directors.
Please don’t think that we are lacking in expertise here at city hall. We have exceptional people who have been around a while and have set the city up for success. Having stated that, it never hurts to have ideas on how to do things better.
From one citizen to another I appreciate your caring and offer."
Councilman Shannon Roberts took the effort to engage and push forward my ideas. Thank you to her.
Here's hoping the rest of the City Team follow through and makes those hard decisions quickly.
What I proposed could be put into effect within days and results would be immediate.
UPDATE / STATUS REQUEST
This AM I sent the follwing email to Shannon Roberts w cc to Mayor McDonnell:
Good Morning
Just wanted to check-in and see how well the City of Camas is doing in taking the necessary actions and making the cuts in spending that we reviewed last week.
We could have done a lot in the last week. I'm interested in seeing how successful the City staff has been comparatively.
Have not heard back although lets hope we have some good news to share regarding this !!
Roberts said in her response to you that the city has, "people who have been around a while and have set the city up for success."
Agreed on both points.
They've definitely been around a long time AND I do believe that Shannon and others on council definitely see what's been going on lately as a success, for the CITY.
Feels like the people of Camas got the "set up" part, but not the success part. You guys are generous.
To the Camas taxpayer reading this, You just paid $21m for $4m in land. I'm currently accepting offers on my own home at that multiple right now if you guys have any of that remarkable generosity left.
